Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf at the BBC 100 Women Internet event
Sue Jelley, Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf, Dani Humberstone, Anne Blankson-Hemans and Dr. Linda Smith were invited to Broadcasting House to take part in the 100 Women BBC Edit-a-thon in collaboration with Wikipedia. This event was organised to highlight the very low percentage of notable women from all walks of life who appear on Wikipedia

100 Women
As part of BBC 100 Women 2016 we’re asking the question is the internet sexist? If you’re a woman, you’re 27 times more likely to be abused online. If you’re in the developing world, nearly 25% fewer women than the men around you have access to the Internet. If you are searching on the Internet, the search engine is likely to be designed by men. Only 1 in 3 google staff is a woman.

Belinda Tong HSWA
Guest of Honour Belinda Tong HSWA at a delightful lunch attended by members and their guests.

"I have always enjoyed our SWA lunches, when we have a chance to socialise and get to know each other better. To-day was in a different league! It was lovely to see everyone again and I was touched to know that I was a "guest", thinking that this was because I became an Honorary Member when I left the Council.

Welcome to the seventh edition of our newsletter. In this edition besides articles and news from our members I am pleased to include items from some of our new Associates and exhibition prize winners for you to enjoy. This year’s exhibition reached a new high with richly deserved positive reviews and showcased an eclectic mix of exceptional works by female artists. As members of this Society we are justly proud of our heritage and evolving recognition as we continue to move forward into the future.
